SSDB President’s Challenge 2019: Beach Heroes in action!

In line with Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) President’s Challenge this year, our Bradell campus collaborated with Resorts World Sentosa and S.E.A Aquarium to host a beach clean up at East Coast Park last weekend. Dressed in bright yellow T-shirts and beaming brightly with their radiant smiles, each family was teamed up to conquer East Coast Park area G! To further encourage our children to pick up litter, our teachers challenged our beach heroes with two tasks. The teams who present the most unique finding and with the heaviest trash bag will be rewarded with a small gift!

With great enthusiasm, the groups began their clean up! Look how hard our beach heroes picked up the litter on the beach.

After a morning of picking up bags of litter, our teams gathered and each presented their team’s most unique finding. There were tons of interesting litter such as hair clips, perfume bottles and abandoned camping tent parts. Ultimately, the most unique finding was a huge blue abandoned pail. Through the presentation of each team’s findings, the children learned that most litters were abandoned by park visitors and some were washed up to the shore. It was also a shock to the children that the majority of waste is made up of plastic materials such as plastic bags and straws, as the items are commonly used every day.

Afterwhich, the teams weighed their trash bags to find out who had collected the most litter. To our horror, our beach heroes had picked up a total 17kg worth of litter and the team who had the heaviest bag was 4kg!

The teams with the most unique item and with the heaviest trash bag were then presented with a notebook and notepad as a reward.

It was truly heart-warming to see our teachers, parents and the little ones working hand in hand to keep the environment clean and green. We would like to thank all our partners Resort World Singapore and S.E.A Aquarium for the wonderful collaboration once again as it would have not been possible without them. Also, not forgetting our sponsors, Singapore Environment Council, Aptamil, Sofixpro, Bookaholic and Wah Mee Silk Screen for the goodie bags!

Such field trips create a deeper impression on our children’s minds and provide an opportunity for them to experience lessons beyond their classrooms. Interested to know more about activities at our Braddell campus? Sign up for a school tour today!
