Our Kindergarten Programme
A thoughtfully structured curriculum designed to balance academic readiness with joyful exploration during the crucial final preschool years.
Typically for children aged 5, Kindergarten 1 builds stronger foundations in literacy, numeracy, and social confidence, while maintaining a healthy rhythm of structured learning and open-ended discovery.
In K1, children begin deepening their academic readiness while still enjoying guided exploration.
- Typical Age: 5 years old
- Daily Balance: Structured literacy and numeracy blocks, inquiry-based projects, outdoor exploration, and purposeful play.
-
Focus Areas:
- English and Chinese bilingual literacy
- Foundational reading and writing skills
- Early mathematics concepts and problem-solving
- Inquiry-based science and discovery
- Social-emotional learning and collaborative play
In K1, children are encouraged to take greater ownership of self-help skills, participate in small group discussions, and begin working more independently while still receiving close teacher guidance.
Kindergarten 2 is designed for children aged 6 preparing for Primary 1. The programme strengthens academic fluency, resilience, and classroom readiness through a more structured yet still engaging approach.
- Typical Age: 6 years old
- Class Size & Ratio: ECDA-regulated ratios ensuring attentive support
- Daily Balance: Increased structured lessons, collaborative group tasks, project presentations, and reflective learning time
-
Focus Areas:
- Advanced bilingual literacy and comprehension
- Sentence construction and confident writing
- Mathematical reasoning and application
- Inquiry-led projects aligned with primary school readiness
- Executive functioning and self-regulation skills
In K2, expectations are higher. Children demonstrate greater independence in self-help routines, manage materials responsibly, work collaboratively on group projects, and build the confidence to express ideas clearly. The curriculum prepares them not just academically, but socially and emotionally for Primary 1 success.

The KiddiWinkie Kindergarten Environment
Our kindergarten learning spaces are thoughtfully designed by qualified early childhood specialists, guided by neuroscience research and Primary 1 readiness studies. Each space features clearly defined learning zones — a reading corner, mathematics area, bilingual literacy station, and collaborative project space — carefully curated for 5 to 6-year-old attention spans and developmental needs.
Furniture, materials, and spatial flow support independence and sustained focus. Children move confidently between structured learning and inquiry-based exploration, within an environment that feels calm, inspiring, and purposefully prepared.
Our low educator turnover ensures consistency in relationships, which is critical for emotional security at this age. Regular internal reviews and safety audits reinforce high standards across all campuses.
For example, controlled access entry points with authorised pick-up verification create a predictable and calm start and end to each day, reducing anxiety for children and parents alike. These structured safety protocols allow children to focus fully on learning within a secure, nurturing setting.
As part of the Babilou Family Network, our Sustainable Education® approach is validated by a global scientific committee of early childhood experts, ensuring that our pedagogy is both research-driven and internationally benchmarked.
Playtinkers™
Playtinkers™ is a hands-on learning experience designed to develop problem-solving skills through loose parts play. Children are encouraged to think critically, explore creative solutions, and apply early numeracy concepts in real-world scenarios.
As they build, sort, and create, they sharpen essential 21st-century skills like collaboration, communication, active listening, and decision-making. These open-ended activities nurture confidence, independence, and the ability to think flexibly – preparing children for primary school and beyond.
Through Playtinkers™, we help children grow into confident thinkers who are ready to face challenges with curiosity and resilience.
Author’s Universe™
Children step into the world of authors and illustrators, exploring how stories are crafted and shared. They experiment with ideas, voice, and structure—building early writing habits, critical thinking, and pride in communicating their own narratives.
Backpack Stories™
Backpack Stories invites children to “travel” through stories that open windows on people, places, and cultures. Along the way they practise listening, recall, and discussion skills while making meaningful connections between books and the wider world.
Chinese Cultural Immersion Programme
Through songs, festivals, customs, and hands-on experiences, children deepen their appreciation of Chinese language and culture. The programme supports confident communication, cultural awareness, and joyful participation in Mandarin-rich activities.
Kiddi Newsroom™
Young learners explore age-appropriate topics in the “newsroom,” practising how to share ideas clearly and respectfully. Activities strengthen vocabulary, comprehension, and presentation skills while encouraging curiosity about local and global events.
Chinese Reading Programme
Guided reading experiences help children recognise characters, read with increasing fluency, and enjoy Chinese texts. Routines build stamina, comprehension strategies, and the confidence to pick up books independently.
Super Readers, Super Heroes
Children discover the “superpowers” of readers—prediction, inference, and making connections—through lively stories and games. The programme celebrates progress, motivates regular reading habits, and links literacy strengths to everyday confidence.
At KiddiWinkie Schoolhouse, we believe that a child’s learning journey should be as diverse and dynamic as the world around them. That’s why we embed a range of enrichment programmes directly into our core preschool curriculum. These experiences support holistic development across physical, cognitive, social, and creative domains.
These programmes are not optional extras. They are thoughtfully designed and integrated into the daily schedule to enhance developmental outcomes, spark joy in learning, and build essential 21st-century skills from the earliest years.
Enrichment offerings may vary by centre, depending on the needs and interests of the children. We encourage families to enquire directly with your preferred centre to learn more about the specific programmes available.
Multi-Sports
Introducing children to various sports and essential movement skills. They develop coordination, agility, and gross motor control through fun and engaging activities with balls, sticks, and rackets. This also nurtures values such as sportsmanship, teamwork, and resilience which are key to character building.
Music and Movement
Our music and movement programme engages the body and enhances balance, spatial awareness, and body coordination, while nurturing focus, creativity, and self-expression which are crucial for academic readiness and emotional well-being.
Art Exploration
Introducing children to art elements, techniques, and famous artists through age-appropriate, hands-on projects. Art promotes multisensory learning, sharpens fine motor skills, and fosters creative expression. Children gain confidence and cultural appreciation while exploring different art forms.
Third Language Enrichment - French, Japanese, Korean
In selected centres, children are exposed to French, Japanese, or Korean through lessons conducted by native-speaking teachers. Early multilingual experiences improve cognitive flexibility, memory, and global awareness. These classes prepare children for an increasingly interconnected world.
Early Coding and Logical Thinking
Our coding programme introduces preschoolers to early coding and problem-solving through hands-on activities. Children strengthen executive functioning skills such as working memory, cognitive flexibility, and self-control, while also building logical thinking, sequencing, and collaboration in a fun and engaging way.
