‘Books and Looks’ Charity Yard Sale at Kiddiwinkie Schoolhouse @ The Grandstand

As part of the Early Childhood Development Agency‘s (ECDA) Start Small, Dream Big initiative, Kiddiwinkie Schoolhouse @ The Grandstand executed a charity yard sale. Titled “Books and Looks”, we aim to raise funds for our beneficiary, Jamiyah Nursing Home.

In preparation for the event, our parents and children donated books and clothes. We collected them in big tubs! By the end of the month, we had plenty of items due to the generous donations. Our teachers and staff sorted through the items to ensure that they were clean and appropriate for the sale. Our Kindergarten 1 and 2’s children designed the signs and decorations for the event as well. It was a school-wide effort!

On Saturday, 21st July 2018, the charity yard sale was set up at level 2 of The Grandstand. Our Kindergarten 2 children were the shopkeepers and also the cashiers. Our little entrepreneurs definitely know how to serve their customers with a bright smile and wonderful service! It was also a learning opportunity for our children to practice their mathematical skills through the transactions and their public speaking and marketing skills!

Through the collective efforts of everyone involved, from our teacher to parents and children, we are proud to announce the success of our Books and Looks Charity Yard Sale! We managed to raise over $900 from the sales of books and clothes.

The proceeds from the sale will be delivered to Jamiyah Nursing Home when our Kindergarten 1 children visit them in August. Furthermore, our children have also prepared a wonderful performance for the elderlies that they will no doubt enjoy! As part of SSDB’s goals, we hope to instil values of awareness, kindness and compassion during their visit to the home.
